take an Environmental justice TOUR

Over recent years, Ironbound Justice has been fighting for a cleaner, healthier environment for the communities of Newark. We conduct tours of the Ironbound, highlighting key issues and sites in this area of the city. These tours are great for groups, individuals, and students interested in learning more about environmental issues and what’s being done to improve Newark and surrounding areas.

The EJ Toxic Tour is an opportunity for community members and groups to learn about the history of the Ironbound - a low-income Black and Brown, majority foreign-born community facing decades of being targeted by toxic industries. We are not a tour company but instead a small Environmental Justice team who uses EJ tours as a form of organizing and sustaining relationships.

The purpose of this tour is to give context to the lived experiences of a Frontline community facing the impact of the climate crisis as well as state/nation-wide policies firsthand. EJ communities are overburdened with toxic facilities and live with the significant impact these facilities have on public health. The tour will provide context around the lived experiences of Environmental Racism, housing justice, and how we can build connections to broaden our mission and cause.

The EJ Toxic Tour is led by Environmental Justice leaders who come from EJ communities themselves. The tour is 90 minutes in length and will note several points of interest along the way.

Masks are strongly encouraged.
